How To Stop Hair Growth On Forehead With Simple Natural Home Remedies?

by Divya Rechesh February 13, 2020

Having a small forehead with a beautiful hairline is one thing and experiencing unwanted hair growth on the forehead is another. Though luxurious locks on the head add to the beauty of a woman, extra growth of hair on the forehead diminishes her facial beauty. It increases self-consciousness and takes a toll on the confidence level. While threading, waxing, and tweezing are some common ways to deal with this situation, visiting the salon to undergo these methods are not always possible. Moreover, these are time-consuming and painful to some extent. Hence, it is always good to find some natural remedies to try from the comfort of home. Let’s explore some simple home remedies to remove as well as stop unwanted hair growth on the forehead in a quick and painless way.

What Cause Hair Growth On Forehead?

Before jumping into the remedies, it is important to identify the reasons lying behind the growth of unwanted hair on the forehead (1). We have listed them below:

  • Genetic factors can be responsible for the growth of unsightly hair on the sides of the forehead.
  • If the production of ‘testosterone’ (a male hormone) goes high in the ovaries, we experience the growth of thick and coarse unwanted hair. This is called ‘hirsutism’.
  • PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is a medical condition in which hirsutism becomes inevitable. (2)
  • Idiopathic Hirsutism is a chronic condition, which is characterized by increased growth of unwanted hair in women for no identifiable reason.
  • Presence of tumor(s) in ovaries or the adrenal gland also stimulates the growth of unwanted hair in women.
  • There are certain medications, such as anabolic steroids, cyclosporine, minoxidil, etc., which can trigger the growth of excess hair in unwanted places of the body when taken for a long time.

Home Remedies For Forehead Hair Removal

Following are a few simple DIY recipes that you can prepare at home by using natural, easily available ingredients:

1. Oatmeal Scrub

Oatmeal has a grainy texture, which makes it a very good natural exfoliant for our skin. Take about half a teaspoon of ground oatmeal in a bowl and add one tablespoon of honey along with 8 drops of fresh lemon juice to it. Mix all these ingredients well and apply it to the hair on your forehead. Massage gently for a good 3 to 5 minutes and scrub off the unwanted hair. Doing it twice every week will prevent the further growth of hair on the forehead.

To exfoliate properly, massage the scrub mixture on your unwanted forehead hair in the direction opposite to its growth. Make use of your fingers and apply gentle pressure only.

2. Sugar And Lime

Sugar is another natural exfoliating agent that is gentle on our skin and can reduce the growth of unwanted hair on it significantly. Take a tablespoon of sugar (both white and brown sugar will do) and mix 2 tablespoons of freshly extracted lime juice and a little water with it. Blend well to form a thick paste with a grainy texture and rub it on the forehead gently. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing off. Follow this procedure twice weekly to get rid of all unwanted hair on the forehead. This will also stop the growth of hair eventually.

3. Turmeric And Lime

The exfoliating properties of turmeric are also quite well-known. Upon regular use, it can also help you get rid of unwanted hair on your forehead and stop it from growing further. Just take a tablespoon of turmeric powder (even better to use freshly grated turmeric) and add fresh lime juice along with some rose water to it. Mix everything well and apply to your forehead. Leave it on for 20 minutes until becomes semi-dry and then, scrub it off gently with lukewarm water.

4. Turmeric And Salt

The exfoliating properties of turmeric can be enhanced even more with salt. Being a natural element with a grainy texture, it also offers great exfoliation. To start with, take a tablespoon of turmeric powder in a bowl. Add the same quantity of salt and a pinch of baking soda to it. Mix well these ingredients with some water. Apply this on the forehead and massage gently to scrub off excess hair. Keep practicing until the growth of unwanted hair stops completely.

5. Green Gram Powder

Green gram is a good facial cleanser and if used the right way, it can also help in removing unwanted hair from your forehead. Take 2 tablespoons of green gram powder and add 1(1/2) teaspoons of rose water as well as 1 teaspoon of fresh lime juice to it. Combine well, apply it to the forehead, and leave it on until turns semi-dry. Then, scrub it off and wash with plain water. You can use this scrub once in two days.

6. Egg White

Besides exfoliation, peel-off masks are also pretty effective in forehead hair removal. The egg acts as a natural peel-off mask as it gets stuck in the skin upon drying. Take the white portion of one egg and add a teaspoon of cornflour along with one teaspoon of sugar to it. Mix until a thick sticky paste is formed. Brush it on your forehead in an even layer. Once dries, gently peel it off. This should be done every alternate day for best results. While being peeled off, it will uproot the extra hair efficiently to make your forehead skin look bright and smooth.

7. Gelatin Peel-Off Mask

If peel-off masks appeal to you more than the exfoliating ones, opt for gelatin as it also helps get rid of the unwanted hair growth on the forehead very easily. To make this gelatin peel-off mask, you will need 1 tablespoon of unflavored gelatin, 2 tablespoons of raw milk, and 2 drops of lavender essential oil. Mix everything in a bowl and microwave for 15 seconds. Apply it immediately on your forehead and peel off gently after 15 minutes. Regular application of this mask will not only keep your forehead squeaky clean but also improve its texture considerably.

Other Ways To Stop Hair Growth On Forehead

1. Waxing

Use a chemical-free wax that will suit your skin. Make sure that you do not use any lotion and stay away from consuming caffeinated beverages on the day of waxing to make the procedure comfortable. Also, steer clear of waxing if you are on medications like Accutane, Retin-A, and other oral vitamin A supplements (3).

2. Laser Therapy

This is a good choice for permanent removal of forehead hair. But you must get the treatment under a board-certified dermatologist or a professional laser technician.

3. Tweezing

Though it is an easy way to get rid of unwanted forehead hair, it is highly time-consuming and very painful. However, it reduces the growth of hair gradually and stops it over time.

4. Shaving

It is the simplest way to eliminate hair growth from the forehead. But try not to shave your forehead frequently as it may leave a darker shade on the area or increase the growth of baby hairs rather than preventing it in some people.
