‘Ashy skin’ is the common name of a certain skin condition called ‘Keratinized Dehydrated Disorder’. It is basically associated with the extreme dryness and itchiness of skin. As the name suggests, the skin in this condition becomes ‘ashy’ or ‘grayish’ in color and chalky in texture. Today, let us talk about how to fight this condition and get rid of it effectively:
Exfoliate Your Skin
Weekly or bi-weekly exfoliation is the most effective way to manage ashy skin perfectly. Whether you want to get rid of it or are trying to stay away from it, using a suitable mild exfoliating scrub or any other exfoliating product enriched with moisturizing element will remove your dead skin cells and give you excellent results. Make sure that you damp the troubled area of the skin prior to scrubbing and wait at least 2-3 minutes before rinsing off the product.

Once you are done with your exfoliation, pat your skin with a soft non-abrasive towel. Keep it a little damp instead of drying completely. Now, apply a clearing lotion of creamy texture or a non-alkaline cleansing gel to that portion of the skin thoroughly. Let it remain there at least for 5 or 10 minutes. Tone and Moisturize Deeply
Applying an effective toner and good quality moisturizer right after exfoliating as well as cleansing the dry, ashy skin is highly necessary. However, choose both products wisely. The moisturizer you are going to apply to your skin must be rich and creamy in texture. Otherwise, it will not be able to seal the natural moisture in your cells leading to dry and ashy skin again.
Be Picky about Skincare Products
Don’t pick a commercial skincare product depending only on the reputation of the brand or just because your mom or best friend has found it perfect for her. Keep the nature of your skin in mind while picking products for yourself and decide carefully. To manage ashy skin in the right manner, you must find products that are rich in ingredients like natural oils, butters, petrolatum, fatty acids, etc. so that they can help your skin retain its moisture for long.
Drink Enough Water
As said previously, ashy skin is caused mainly by dryness. Hence, it is of utmost importance that you consume plenty of water every day to provide proper hydration to your body as well as your skin. It will not only detoxify your body and cure all your skin related issues, but also plump up your skin a bit by restoring its natural moisture content. Consequently, you will get rid of ashy skin.

Some Other Important Tips:
- Make it a point to use shaving gel or cream, while shaving with a razor. Apply a good moisturizer right after shaving. Also, never forget to alter the blades of your razor after 10 shaves or so.
- Use warm or lukewarm water instead of hot water, while taking a shower even in the chilling winter months.
- Make use of a humidifier to keep the dryness of air away in your room. It is especially required in winter.
