Homemade Toners for Sensitive Acne Prone Skin

The problem with sensitive and acne prone skin is that it has to be kept clean, moisturized and protected but not all products suit such skin types. Toning is an important skin care step that will help clear all the remnants of oil from the skin and also control the sebum production in the skin, making it a very effective step in controlling acne and oiliness. While a store bought toner may or may not suit you and can have varying results, a surefire way of dealing with sensitive and acne prone skin is to make your own toner that suits your skin best. Here we tell you about different homemade toners for sensitive acne prone skin.

Why make homemade toners for sensitive acne prone skin?

Store-bought toners can sometimes contain alcohol which tends to dry skin out too much and can irritate sensitive skin. If it is not alcohol, it can be some other ingredient in your toner that may not suit your skin. Moreover, why go for the packaged deal when you can make it fresh at home and know what ingredients have gone into it! That way, you can customize it according to your liking and what suits you best.

Green Tea and Apple Cider Vinegar Toner

There cannot be a better way to cleanse your system than by drinking green tea. The same way, applying it will help clear pores, control oil production, soothe any kind of skin inflammation and also help you fight aging! Apple cider vinegar helps restore the natural pH of the skin which deters the acne causing bacteria from thriving on the surface of your skin. Two simple ingredients and your own super toner! Let’s get started?

  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3/4 cup strong green tea
  • 1 spray bottle

Mix both the ingredients together and transfer it into a spray bottle. Use everyday on the skin after cleansing your face. You could either spritz it on the face or apply it with a cotton ball.

2. Lemon and tomato toner

Lemon and tomato toner

This is not a leave on toner but one that you wash off. It works more like a face mask but is simple to use. All you need is

  • 1 tsp of tomato pulp
  • 1 tsp of lemon juice.

Apply this on the skin and leave it for 2 mins. Alternatively, you can sprinkle some lemon juice on a tomato slice and apply. Wash it off with cold water. The lemon juice will help control the sebum production while the tomatoes will cleanse and shrink the pores. Regular use also helps remove blemishes and pigmentation from the skin.

3. Tea tree oil toner

Tea tree oil is effective in soothing inflammation and controlling acne. To make the toner, take

  • 3-4 drops of tea tree oil
  • 1/2 cup distilled water
  • 1 spray bottle

Mix all the ingredients together and refrigerate. Shake well during each use since tea tree oil will otherwise all float on the surface of the water. Use it everyday after cleansing.
