If you have mild to very oily skin, then you perhaps know why I called the whiteheads pesky. Whiteheads keep occurring on the T zone and beneath the lips due to the pores getting clogged with sebum and bacteria. People with oily skin have overactive sebum production and hence they are most afflicted with whiteheads. So rather than cribbing it, we can do something to get rid of whiteheads. There are some simple ways to do it.
Cleanliness is the first step
Keep skin clean of grime and oil. Wash face with a mild cleanser twice a day. Try using a face wash with Salicylic Acid since it helps in controlling oil production. Do not overdo the washing though as it could cause more oil production to counter the drying out from washing the face too many times.
Since we are talking about clogged pores, the easiest way to clean them would be by opening them up. Use a steamer or a tub of hot water and steam your face using it for about 5-10 minutes. Wipe your face off well with a towel or a tissue. Follow it up with scrubbing the face to clean the pores. If you find steaming to be a chore, dip a towel in hot water and cover your face with it for a few minutes. Wipe off with the same towel.
Follow up the steaming regimen with a home-made scrub. Try one of the following scrubs according to what is available in your pantry
Mix two tsp of oatmeal with some rosewater to make a paste. Scrub on damp face in circular motions, focussing on the region around the nose, forehead and chin. Leave for two minutes and wash.
Mix two tsp of almond or walnut powder with some rosewater or lemon juice and scrub the skin well. Wash after five minutes.
Lemon and Sugar
Mix a tsp of lemon juice with some sugar and scrub your face with it gently. Lemon will help get rid of the oiliness on the face too.

Follow up the scrub with a face mask. Multani mitti and rose water mixture ( fuller’s earth) works best as it helps close up the open pores and also absorb excess oil.
You could also try applying tomato or potato pulp on the face as they are known to control the occurrence of whiteheads. Simply grate the vegetable and apply the pulp and leave for ten minutes before washing off.
Follow CTM religiously
Make it a habit to cleanse, tone and moisturize your face twice a day. Use a toner that does not have alcohol. And yes, moisturize even if you have oily skin. Find a light, gel based moisturizer but do not skip the step.
Do not touch your face
Do not keep touching your pimples and whiteheads and resist all the temptations to pop them. Leave them as is and follow the routines above and they will gradually reduce.
Get professional help
If you have too many of the whiteheads, it is always better to entrust yourself to a professional who can give you a good clean up or a facial and use the right tools to remove them.
Food and exercise
Finally, I can’t stress enough about it; nothing substitutes good food and exercise. Drink lots of water, eat healthy and get moving. That will automatically work wonders on your skin!
