Dove is one of the most reputed beauty brands in India. No offense about that. Still when it comes to hair care, I really can’t rely on it. I don’t know why but their hair care products never suit my wavy and to-some-extent frizzy hair. But when I saw the images of the bottles from this Elixir- Nourished Shine range, I couldn’t help but buy it. I purchased the ‘Hibiscus & Argan Oil’ version and here is how this worked for me.
Dove Elixir Nourished Shine – Hibiscus & Argan Oil is a Hindustan Unilever Limited product. It is basically a brilliant blend of precious hair oils with real ingredients that will help you ‘Love Your Hair’ even more. According to the words of the company:
“Elixir is a luxurious blend of precious oils by Dove. Infused with real ingredients, it nourishes your hair from root to tip. This potent blend of oils has the power of overnight oiling (versus coconut oil) in 30 minutes.
Dove Elixir – Nourished Shine is enriched with Argan oil to retain moisture in each hair fiber every time you oil your hair. Blended with Hibiscus, it lends your hair a luminous and reflective shine shield. It absorbs instantly to help rejuvenate damaged hair caused by heat, styling & environmental damage. “
[N.B.: Keep the product away from direct sunlight and at room temperature to protect the natural ingredients in this precious formula. If the product is stored at low temperature, like many natural oils some clouding can occur, which is completely reversible when the product returns to room temperature.]

The packaging of Dove Elixir Nourished Shine – Hibiscus & Argan Oil itself looks so elegant that I fell in complete love with it the moment I saw it. Especially the dried petals of real hibiscus flowers, which float in the oil while shaken and settle at the bottom of the bottle otherwise, are extremely tempting. But once I started to use the oil, the cons of the packaging became clear to me.
The bottle comes in a white carton, which contains all necessary information. It is a transparent glass bottle, which is quite large in size and significantly heavy by weight. Even though the bottle is sturdy enough, carrying it with you can be a real headache. There is a pump dispenser at the top, which is partially covered with a transparent plastic cap. I agree that using such a mechanism is a new concept for the bottle of hair oil and it helps us take out only the required amount of content. But the dried hibiscus petals often accumulate inside the pipe and I become unable to dispense the oil through the nozzle. The pump also has no lock, which may cause leakage any time.
My Take on Dove Elixir Nourished Shine – Hibiscus & Argan Oil:
The elixir looks slightly pinkish-orange from outside the bottle. But when you pour it onto your palm, it becomes completely transparent. It has a very nice floral fragrance, which lingers for a few hours even after the application. But it doesn’t bother me as I like it very much. However, the aroma may bother sensitive noses as it is to some extent strong.
Unlike many other regular hair oils, it is lightweight and has a medium, non-sticky texture. I need 8 to 10 pumps for my medium-length hair, which is dry and somewhat frizzy in nature. I usually apply it on my hair 2 to 3 days a week, leave it overnight, and shampoo in the next morning as usual. I, sometimes even, use it as a leave-in serum focusing on the ends in order to give my rough locks a nourished shine.
The best thing about this oil is that it absorbs almost instantly and goes deep into the hair strands without giving that typical ‘oiled hair’ look. When I keep it overnight, it makes my unruly tresses quite soft and smooth. The frizziness reduces to a great extent too. As a leave-in serum, it helps me stay away from stray hairs and give my hair a beautiful shine. But honestly speaking, I’ve not seen or felt any dramatic change in the texture of my hair. Being non-greasy, it can also be washed off very easily.

Will I Recommend?
If you are looking for a good alternative to your regular coconut oil, this is not at all a good choice. It is more like a leave-in serum that can keep frizzes away and give your hair an instant shine. So, if you have super dry hair with unmanageable ends, you can use this oil as a nourishing treatment.
